Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has voiced concern about increasing criminal activities, the consumption of illicit substances, and reports of unprovoked attacks in parts of the state.

He raised these issues on Friday during an emergency security meeting convened to review growing challenges and emerging threats. The gathering brought together heads of security agencies and other stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen protection of lives and property.

The governor warned that if left unaddressed, the trends could affect peace and public safety across Taraba. He specifically urged security agencies to stay alert and respond quickly to reports of attacks.

Kefas also pointed to security issues linked to mining activities. He described security as a shared responsibility that requires active cooperation from government institutions, security forces, traditional authorities, and communities.

He called for stronger collaboration and intelligence sharing among the various agencies so they can respond more effectively and prevent further problems. Heads of the security agencies were urged to remain professional, honest, and committed in their duties.

“Protecting lives and property remains a major responsibility of the government and security agencies,” the governor stated. He acknowledged the ongoing contributions of the military and expressed appreciation for their support and sacrifices.

Residents rely on security operatives for safety, Kefas noted. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation among all stakeholders to handle emerging threats.

After the governor’s remarks, the meeting moved into a closed-door session. Participants reviewed the current situation and discussed practical measures to address the identified challenges.

This meeting forms part of broader efforts by the Taraba State government to improve coordination on security matters, including issues related to mining regulation and community involvement.
