Save Our Future: Taraba State University Final-Year Students Urge Governor Kefas to Prevent ASUU Strike

Final-year students of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, have appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to urgently intervene in the ongoing dispute between the Taraba State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), TSU chapter.

In an open letter dated 22 September 2026 and signed by “Concerned Final Year Students,” the students warned that a threatened indefinite strike could disrupt their final examinations scheduled to begin on 29 September 2026.

The students expressed deep concern that any industrial action during this critical period would derail the academic calendar, delay graduation, and force many of them to incur extra costs for accommodation and living expenses. They also highlighted the additional psychological and financial pressure a prolonged disruption would place on students and their families.

“We want to write our final exams and graduate in peace. Please save our academic future,” the letter stated.

The students called on the state government to immediately engage ASUU leadership, address the union’s outstanding demands, and give clear assurances that examinations will proceed as planned. They also praised Governor Kefas for his administration’s education policies, particularly the free education initiative, describing him as a leader committed to students’ welfare.

Copies of the open letter were sent to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, the Chairman of ASUU TSU chapter, and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Taraba State.
