The governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected all political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, deciding to support only candidates presented by the party.
At a meeting held Monday night at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, the governors stated that coalitions or alliances could jeopardize the chances of APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
Some former APC leaders who lost primaries for certain elective offices have since joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Among those who defected to the PDP and secured tickets are Senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha, who lost the ticket to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq; Honourable Kolo Jiya from Patigi local government, who gained the Kwara North senatorial ticket after switching from APC to PDP.
Others include Isa Pantami, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, who has now become the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State.

In Cross River, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Arthus Davis, is running against the incumbent APC governor, Bassey Otu.
However, reading the resolutions of the Progressives Governors Forum, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, declared that the governors unanimously agreed not to engage in any alliances.
He emphasized that such political arrangements could cause confusion and harm the APC’s electoral prospects.
He stated, The Forum unanimously resolved that its members won’t participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the reelection of Mr. President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the Forum has no intention of supporting anybody at any level that’s not an APC candidate because our candidates are being sponsored by our party.
“The Governor’s commitment is solely to all APC candidates.
“Any arrangement that could create confusion, divided loyalty, or conflicting interests will not be considered.
“All levels of the party campaign structure must align with the expectations of Mr. President and the objectives of the APC.”
