Residents and farmers living near the Nigerian Army Military Training Area in Kachia, Kaduna State, have been advised to stay clear of the range during a scheduled two-week live-ammunition training exercise.

The Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery will conduct Exercise Vulcan Glow XII from 5 to 18 October. The drill will involve live rounds as well as the movement of troops and military equipment inside the designated training area.

Maj. G.A. Okupe, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, issued the advisory. He urged people in surrounding communities to keep away from the training ground throughout the period to avoid any safety risks.

Okupe asked community stakeholders and media organisations to help circulate the notice so that residents remain informed. He stated that the exercise forms part of the Corps of Artillery’s regular annual training to maintain operational readiness in artillery operations, and that the Army will enforce appropriate safety measures for the duration of the activity.

What residents should do

•  Avoid entering or farming within the Nigerian Army Military Training Area in Kachia between 5 and 18 October.

•  Treat any unusual troop or equipment movements and the sound of live fire as part of the announced exercise.

•  Follow any additional local instructions issued by security or community leaders.

The advisory is a standard public-safety step taken before major live-fire training at the Kachia range. Residents who need clarification are encouraged to contact local community leaders or official Army public-relations channels.
