Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to identify any major infrastructure project completed since it took office in 2023.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, the former Rivers State governor and former Minister of Transportation argued that the current government has limited tangible achievements in project delivery to show. He rejected comparisons with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that Buhari’s government completed several projects in its first term.

“The only thing you can judge us and look at it is about governance, but in terms of being able to do projects here and there, let this government show one thing they have done, including the so-called Coastal Road that I hear is N33 trillion, about $16 billion,” Amaechi said.

“By this time in the first tenure of Buhari’s government we have completed Abuja-Kaduna rail.

Tell them to show one rail they have completed, they should name one project they have completed, just one, including Television House like Channels.”

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has been a flagship (and frequently debated) project associated with the Tinubu administration.

Amaechi’s remarks highlight ongoing opposition scrutiny of infrastructure progress amid preparations for the 2027 elections.

Comments on Seyi Tinubu and campaign activities

In related remarks earlier, Amaechi also addressed the activities of Seyi Tinubu. Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the ADC National Women’s League Conference at the Yar’Adua Centre, he questioned the source of funds allegedly being spent during nationwide engagements, claiming that Seyi Tinubu had been “throwing money around” while campaigning for his father ahead of 2027.

Economic policy criticisms

Amaechi further criticised aspects of the administration’s economic policies. He linked the removal of the petrol subsidy to higher costs for transportation, food, and other household expenses, saying the North had been particularly affected. He also referenced rising numbers of out-of-school children and people living in poverty, and accused the Federal Government of undermining local rice production through imports, which he said compounded difficulties for Nigerian farmers.

These comments form part of broader opposition critiques of living costs and policy outcomes under the current administration. As with all political claims, they represent Amaechi’s stated positions and should be weighed against official government responses and independent data.
