According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President’s aircraft is expected to arrive at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the evening. Officials noted that Tinubu chose Lagos as his first stop rather than Abuja to pay tribute to Chief MKO Abiola, widely regarded as a central figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle and the declared winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
On Independence Day (October 1), the President plans to attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos. While in the city, he is also scheduled to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. He is expected to return to Abuja after those engagements.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation. He spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris. During his time in the French capital, he attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. He also held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group (whose interests include Canal+, MultiChoice, and Universal Music Group) and, on Monday, Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings.

Last week, the President was present for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World. The agreement covers plans for a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone. DP World, a major global ports and logistics company, has indicated an investment of around $7 billion in the projects.
The return ends a roughly month-long period abroad that combined rest with diplomatic and investment-related discussions. The Presidency has framed the Lagos stop as both a symbolic gesture tied to Nigeria’s democratic history and a practical opportunity for political consultations ahead of the next election cycle.
