The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued 15 minors who were allegedly trafficked and sold for N2 million each by a fake civil society organisation representative, the National Council of Child Rights Advocate.
NSCDC Public Relations Officer Babawale Afolabi shared this update at the Corps Headquarters in Abuja, stating that the rescue occurred during a major crackdown on criminal groups involved in vandalism and child trafficking.
During the operation, officials also recovered stolen rifles and damaged telecommunications equipment.
Afolabi explained that a syndicate member impersonated an official from the National Council of Child Rights Advocate, tricking parents into surrendering their children.
"Posing as part of an NGO and orphanage project called the Back to School Project, he convinced less privileged parents to release their children with promises of free education,” Afolabi stated.
He further mentioned that the operation was conducted by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS), led by Commander Dandaura Appollos.
Afolabi reported that 15 of the 16 trafficked children from Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities in Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, were recovered from their buyers.
"Using advanced field tracking, technical intelligence, and multi-state tactical sweeps, CG’s SIS operatives traced the buyers across different parts of the country,” he explained.
He added that three victims were rescued in Anambra, Imo, and Enugu states, while the remaining 12 were recovered during a coordinated operation along eastern transit routes.
Additionally, he disclosed that three suspected buyers—one man and two women—had been arrested in connection with the case.
