The Lagos State Police Command has acquired 2,000 Cowry Cards from the Lagos State Government to help reduce transportation expenses for officers working throughout the state.
These cards were handed over Thursday by Hassan Adekoya, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu. Disu was represented by Assistant Inspector-General Simeon Akpanudom from the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos.
As part of the state’s transportation support scheme, 2,000 recipients will benefit from three months of free travel on selected government transport services, such as BRT buses, electric boats, the Blue Line, and Red Line.
After this period, beneficiaries will enjoy a 50% fare discount.
Akpanudom expressed the inspector-general’s gratitude to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighting the initiative as a considerate effort to “ease the transportation burden” on officers and to improve their morale.
He added that the program would also enhance collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in fostering public safety and effective governance.
Lagos Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai stated that the distribution of the cards would be transparent and fair to qualified officers.
He assured that the cards would be used only for their designated purpose.
Fatai also reiterated the command’s dedication to professionalism, accountability, and leveraging available resources to enhance security throughout Lagos.
