Brentford produced one of the standout results of the early Premier League season with a dominant 3-0 home win over Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday night.

Second-half goals from Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho sealed a statement victory that lifted Keith Andrews’ side into the top three and extended their unbeaten start to the campaign. It was Brentford’s first-ever Premier League win against Chelsea and marked their best opening to a top-flight season.

The hosts were clinical after the break. Anthony opened the scoring from a well-worked corner routine, Thiago reacted quickest to a rebound to make it 2-0, and Carvalho finished a late counter-attack to complete the scoring.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Andrews praised his side’s approach and mentality.

“I think it’s important that you enjoy these nights. There’s no point hiding it,” he said. “There are some tough days in the game, and you’ve got to enjoy the different emotions.

“I felt like there was something bubbling towards tonight. I have this unbelievable calm around the team because I trust them, so it’s nice to see it come to fruition.

“I see humility and hunger within the group every day. We’re very respectful of each other, but we’re going to get better. We have to continue improving in this league.

“We try to push boundaries and be really open with each other. Let’s continue on our journey because I’m loving it.”

The performance highlighted the qualities Andrews has emphasised since taking charge: organisation without the ball, collective hunger, and the ability to hurt opponents in different ways — from set-pieces to rapid transitions.

Brentford’s strong start under the Irishman continues to turn heads. After five games they remain unbeaten, and results like this against a Chelsea side managed by Xabi Alonso underline the progress the club has made.

Andrews’ message was clear: enjoy the moment, stay grounded, and keep improving. With the international break now underway, the Bees will look to build on this result when Premier League action resumes.
