The Zamfara State Government has entered into an Air Route Development Memorandum of Understanding with XEJet Limited. The agreement aims to establish scheduled commercial passenger flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Officials say the partnership will improve air access to the state and support business, investment, tourism, and broader economic activity. According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, XEJet is expected to begin bi-weekly flights next month.

The signing took place on Monday and was chaired by Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni. Secretary to the State Government Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada signed on behalf of the state.

At the ceremony, Mummuni linked the deal to the government’s wider focus on transport infrastructure. He noted that Gusau International Airport was built from scratch and finished in about two years. The airport’s purpose, he said, is to make the movement of people and goods more efficient and thereby strengthen the local economy.

Mummuni also pointed to Governor Dauda Lawal’s ongoing engagement with international investors and donor agencies. He described the start of commercial flights as a step that should help attract further investment by making the state easier to reach.

The new route is expected to benefit businesses, investors, and visitors while increasing the economic usefulness of the recently completed airport facility.
