Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action for Galatasaray after the first international break of the 2026/27 season, according to reports in the Turkish media.

The Nigerian striker is targeting availability for Galatasaray’s Turkish Süper Lig fixture against Kasımpaşa, scheduled for 9 October. Osimhen has been recovering from a muscle injury sustained during Galatasaray’s match against Başakşehir on 4 September.

Since that game, he has missed Galatasaray’s Champions League meeting with Sporting Lisbon as well as Süper Lig matches against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

Osimhen was initially named in the Super Eagles squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. He later withdrew. A statement from Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe explained that recovery from the muscle strain had progressed more slowly than hoped. The statement noted that both Galatasaray and the Super Eagles technical team had originally expected him to be fit for the Trabzonspor fixture and the subsequent international window.

Before the injury, Osimhen made an excellent start to the new campaign. He scored six goals and provided two assists in his first four appearances for the Turkish champions.

His absence has opened the door for Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi to return to the Super Eagles squad. Other attacking options available to Nigeria for the upcoming qualifiers include Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams and Rafiu Durosinmi.

Galatasaray will use the international break to continue Osimhen’s rehabilitation. Turkish reports indicate the club is optimistic he will be ready when league action resumes. Fans will hope the prolific forward can pick up where he left off and help drive both domestic and European campaigns.
