The U.S. military reports destroying five Iranian crude oil tankers following ballistic missile strikes on a US Navy warship by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The warship avoided both missile attacks over two days and continued patrols without any injuries among personnel.
Four of the tankers—M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1, and M/T Riesco—were destroyed in the Gulf of Oman. The fifth, M/T Derya, was hit near Iran’s Kharg Island.
CENTCOM stated crews were ordered to abandon the vessels before the strikes, rendering them inoperable.
The military described these vessels as part of a multi-billion dollar Iranian “shadow network" believed to fund the IRGC and regional allies.
This action follows three days after US forces targeted three Iranian oil carriers, linked to alleged attempted attacks on a US aircraft carrier and destroyer.
These incidents escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran, especially around the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.
Iran reportedly launched missiles at US targets in Jordan, with Jordanian defenses intercepting 18 of 20 missiles.
No casualties occurred.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments, remains a flashpoint.
This escalation has pushed international oil prices closer to $100 per barrel, raising concerns over energy supply disruptions.
