Sturridge Warns Alonso After Chelsea’s Defeat To Arsenal

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has issued a warning to the club’s manager, Xabi Alonso, following the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday. Sturridge emphasized that Alonso must prioritize building a cohesive and balanced team instead of overly depending on his front three’s individual talents.

Chelsea faced their London rivals at the Emirates Stadium, where they took an early lead in the second minute through Morgan Rogers, who calmly finished after a quick counterattack. However, Arsenal responded strongly, scoring two goals through Kai Havertz, a well-placed shot from inside the box, and Martin Odegaard, who scored from a free kick just outside the penalty area.

Reacting to the defeat, Sturridge said Chelsea were overly reliant on their attacking trio, highlighting the need for more tactical cohesion.

He told Sky Sports: “They posed a threat to Arsenal at various points, but I believe they are currently heavily dependent on the front three’s individual skills and quick interplay.

“The chemistry among the front three is evident, but beyond that, significant work remains. Xabi [Alonso] needs to focus on developing a consistent style of play, including better communication, understanding of positional roles, and cohesive movement.

“There is still a degree of confusion among players; it’s not yet seamless. Moving forward, their reliance on the front three’s talents to secure victories is unsustainable over the long season,” he added.

This defeat marked Chelsea’s first in four competitive matches this season, with their previous three games resulting in wins against teams like Bournemouth, Brighton, and Fulham. Arsenal, on the other hand, have now won all three of their matches, including victories over Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, and Leicester City.
