Nasarawa APC Names Deputy Governor Candidate — 2027

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has announced Emmanuel Ombugadu as the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, following a decision reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, on Monday.

After the meeting, Sule told journalists that the decision was made after consultations among the aspirants interested in the position, all of whom pledged to support whoever was chosen, in the same spirit that guided the party’s earlier decision on its governorship candidate.

“We had a few highly qualified candidates, and each of them agreed, just like we did with the gubernatorial race, that whoever is selected would have their full support. So, ultimately, it was agreed that Honourable Emmanuel Ombugadu will be our deputy gubernatorial candidate,” the Governor said.

Sule praised party stakeholders for attending the meeting despite the short notice, explaining that the venue was moved to Abuja because of his official commitments, including the North Central Development Commission summit, where he served as the Chief Host, and his upcoming trip to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He urged party members to stay united as the 2027 general elections approach.

“We cannot go into these elections divided. That is the reason we invited this meeting, so that we can stay together, make a collective decision, and move forward as a team,” he stated.

Additionally, the APC 2027 gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ahmed Wadada, expressed his satisfaction with the selection of his running mate, emphasizing that the decision reflected the party leadership’s will and considered zoning factors.

“I feel happy, I feel committed, and of course fulfilled to have him as my deputy gubernatorial candidate, because it is the decision of the party and the leadership,” he said.

Wadada urged other aspirants interested in the position to accept the outcome for the sake of party unity.

“I call on all others too, particularly my brother Dr Kigbu, who everybody thought would get it, to accept this as the will of God. Together we shall weather the storm,” Senator Wadada said.

In his response, the nominated deputy gubernatorial candidate, Emmanuel Ombugadu, thanked the governor and party stakeholders for placing their trust in him, describing the decision as difficult but essential for maintaining party cohesion.

“I feel highly elated, and I take it as the will of God for me to be in this capacity. I thank the Governor and all the stakeholders of the state for this very critical decision,” he said.

He also acknowledged that some of his colleagues who had also aspired to the position felt disappointed, but noted they had pledged loyalty to the party.

“Thank God they have pledged their loyalty to the party and agreed to work for the progress of the party come 2027,” he added.
