The Lagos State Government has launched a monitoring exercise across public schools to ensure a smooth start to the 2026/2027 academic year. The exercise focuses on school readiness, teacher and student attendance, and the immediate resumption of teaching and learning activities.
On Monday, September 14, 2026, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, led a monitoring team to Keke Senior High School in Agege. During the visit, he inspected the school environment, interacted with teachers and school administrators, and conducted a roll call of teachers to confirm attendance and adherence to professional standards.
Commissioner Alli-Balogun encouraged teachers to remain dedicated to their duties and support students’ academic growth. He also urged students to approach their studies with seriousness and active participation.
“It is very important for you to be focused, read ahead of the class, engage your teachers by asking questions and participating in all positive things that happen in school,” he said. “Learn to build a good foundation and a better future for yourselves.”

In a separate visit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, monitored activities at the Technical and Vocational School, Agidingbi, and Babs Fafunwa Grammar School, Ojodu. She assessed the schools’ readiness, checked attendance, and held discussions with school management and parents.
Dokunmu-Adegbite commended teachers and administrators for their commitment and stressed the importance of professionalism. She also advised students to avoid negative peer pressure and focus on developing useful skills.
“Don’t join any bad group, learn from your mates who know better than you. Never stop learning; any skill you like to acquire, give it your best,” she said.
To further strengthen oversight, the Lagos State Government has assigned directors on Grade Level 15 and above to various schools. These directors will monitor resumption activities, teacher and student attendance, and the overall progress of academic programmes.
The 2026/2027 academic session officially commenced on Monday, September 14, 2026, in line with the state’s unified academic calendar that applies to both public and private schools.
