Apple Music today announced Abuja-born Nigerian singer-songwriter ru. as the newest cover star for the Africa Rising playlist, which highlights emerging African artists making an impact locally and globally.
Born Ruth Unde and raised in Abuja, ru. is quickly establishing herself as one of Nigeria's most promising new voices, combining Afropop, soul, and alternative R&B into a sound influenced by faith and authentic storytelling. She turns personal experiences into songs that allow listeners to see themselves reflected.
This month, Ru. debuts Silk II, a five-track project that explores femininity, self-expression, and intentional songwriting. Following breakout releases such as 'i think i love you,' its sequel 'i think i love you 2' with Magixx, and the empowering 'Woman,' Silk II demonstrates her growth as an artist while staying true to sincerity and emotional honesty.
Recognized for her rich vocals, thoughtful lyrics, and striking visual style, ru. seamlessly transitions between soulful intimacy and contemporary Afropop, producing music that feels both deeply personal and widely relatable. With Silk II, she solidifies her status as more than an emerging talent—she is a unique voice shaping African music’s future through authenticity and careful storytelling.
In response to her selection as this month's Africa Rising cover star, Ru says: "To be seen in this way is a gift. I'm deeply honoured to be part of Africa Rising, and grateful for the chance to share my story. I hope this inspires others to believe that gentle beginnings can grow into such moments."
As the Africa Rising cover star, ru. will be featured on the playlist, join Ebro Darden for a conversation on Apple Music 1, and appear in an Africa Now Radio episode with Nandi Madida, providing listeners with deeper insight into her journey and creative vision.
