Nigerian singer BNXN and producer Sarz claimed one of the night’s biggest prizes at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) when their collaboration “Back Outside” won Song of the Year.
The awards took place on September 12, 2026, at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas. AFRIMMA returned after a two-year break and expanded into a broader music and cultural festival that mixed performances, fashion, food, and industry celebrations.
“Back Outside” stood out as a defining track of the year. Released in April 2026 as part of the duo’s joint project The Game Needs Us, the song pairs BNXN’s smooth, reflective vocals with Sarz’s polished production. It draws on African rhythms with subtle influences that give it broad appeal, and it features an interpolation of the classic Malian track “Neye Mounké Allah La” by Amadou & Mariam.
Since its release, the record has connected strongly with listeners through its catchy melodies, replay value, and the clear chemistry between the two artists. It performed well on streaming charts in Nigeria and became a staple in Afrobeats conversations throughout the year.
The Song of the Year award recognizes commercial impact, popularity, and cultural influence across the African music scene. For BNXN (formerly known as Buju), the win adds to a growing list of achievements that have established him as a consistent leading voice in contemporary Afrobeats.

Davido took Album of the Year for 5ive, Tems won Best Female West Africa, Ruger claimed Best Male West Africa, and other Nigerian talents picked up awards across several categories. The results underscored the continued global reach of Nigerian music and the rising importance of producer-artist partnerships.
“Back Outside” now sits among the defining songs of 2026. Its recognition at AFRIMMA highlights how thoughtful production and strong songwriting continue to drive the genre forward.
