2027 Elections: IGP Disu Unveils Six-Pillar Police Security Framework

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in delivering peaceful and secure general elections in 2027.

The President made the pledge on Monday in Owerri, Imo State, while declaring open the sixth Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026). He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” the conference focused on practical steps to strengthen electoral security.

Tinubu emphasised the importance of professionalism, impartiality, intelligence-led policing, and closer coordination among security agencies. He also assured the Force of ongoing support in training, technology, operational logistics, welfare, and institutional reforms.

Six-Pillar Framework for Election Security

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu used the occasion to present a six-pillar roadmap designed to guide the Nigeria Police Force’s approach to the 2027 elections. The pillars are:

•  Stronger intelligence and early-warning systems

•  Intensive training and operational preparedness

•  Joint command and inter-agency coordination

•  Effective communication and technology deployment

•  Community partnership

•  Absolute neutrality

Disu directed all Commissioners of Police to identify and map potential electoral flashpoints, criminal networks, and emerging threats within their commands. He further instructed them to reinforce early-warning mechanisms and community-based intelligence gathering in the lead-up to the polls.

Public Complaints Line and Accountability Measures

The IGP announced that the Nigeria Police Force will launch an official public election complaints line on 12 October 2026. He issued a clear warning against political violence, voter intimidation, vote buying, and other electoral offences.

Officers found taking sides, harassing voters, colluding with political actors, or abusing their powers will face strict accountability, Disu stated.

He noted that the conference, which coincided with the International Day of Peace, served as a timely reminder that lasting peace depends on professionalism, public trust, and proactive measures to prevent violence.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to professional, neutral, and intelligence-led policing, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and sustained community engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
